BERITA SOLO - Amnesty International Indonesia Executive Director Usman Hamid will meet with Polri officials today, Monday, July 8, 2019, at Police Headquarters, Jalan Trunojoyo, South Jakarta.
Meeting with Polri officials to ask about the progress of investigations into cases of riots in the Thamrin area, Central Jakarta, on May 21 and 22 2019.
"Yes, we plan to go to the National Police Headquarters at 11.00 WIB," Usman said, Monday, July 8, 2019.
Usman said, He admitted, his party would provide a number of suggestions and input related to the investigation of the case.
Usman Hamid explained, Amnesty International Indonesia has an open mechanism and closed input mechanism.
"This is all to encourage the legal process for humanity and justice both for the community, including the members of the National Police who carry out their duties," he explained.
Amnesty International Indonesia has appreciated the National Police for imposing disciplinary sanctions in the form of 21 days of detention on 10 Brimob members who allegedly committed violence against a resident in Kampung Bali, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta.
However, Amnesty International Indonesia also asked the Indonesian Police to carry out a process of prosecuting members of the Mobile Brigade who allegedly committed torture at several other points in Jakarta on May 21-23 2019, Amesty International Indonesia claimed to have documented alleged torture by members of the Mobile Brigade.
"Disciplinary punishment is a mandatory action taken by the National Police to take action against its members who commit violations. We appreciate the move," Usman said.
He stated, the National Police must thoroughly investigate and punish members who allegedly committed violence during the May 21-23 2019 riots in a professional manner. Thus, public trust in the National Police can return.
